We are excited to share with you the results that were achieved on the home on Michigan Ave.! Our objectives on this project were to preserve the historic aspects, yet offer a freshly refurbished home with all of the modern conveniences...and we did just that! We've renovated this home inside and out including new plumbing, electric, roof, kitchen, bathrooms, and flooring!
Before Photo of Exterior -- Can You Say Tired and Neglected?!
After -- Better than New!
We meticulously rehabilitated the woodwork on the exterior...replacing bad boards, restoring windows and original door, renovating the porch and repainting the exterior. We restored these craftsman windows and front door to their former glory. When we started, these were so poorly maintained thatthey almost appeared to be non-existent. But now, they pop just like they used to!
Before Living and Dining Room -- Lots of Hidden Potential
After -- Restored to its Former Glory!
There was great woodwork to begin with. The flooring in the dining room had been covered over by vinyl flooring and the floors needed some work to add missing boards and refinish them. We reclaimed some of the original wood from other parts of the house to create floorboards to fill-in the missing pieces and then refinished the wood. We felt that widening the doorways would provide a more open floor plan and make this great first floor space feel even more interconnected. So, we widened the entryways between the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The original trim was very decorative. However, over the years trim pieces had been lost and broken and with the widened doorways, some of the original trim would no longer work. So, we reconstructed the wood trim to match the period and complete the trim work!
Kitchen Before -- It's so Ugly it's Oogly!
Kitchen After -- Functional and Trendy!
We took out an exterior door that was in the corner to create more counter top and cabinet space. Before we started there was no pantry or dishwasher. We felt these would be important in creating an awesome kitchen space with all of the modern conveniences. So, we converted a coat closet/powder room into a kitchen pantry (on the left of the after photo). We also removed the vinyl floor and put down trendy ceramic floor tiles and porcelain tile backsplash. The shaker cabinets we used are 100% wood (no particle board) and the uppers are 42" height to provide a deluxe look to this beautiful kitchen space!
After -- Den Conversion to Powder Room and First Floor Laundry!
We converted a den in the back of the house into a powder room and first floor laundry. We added to the list of modern conveniences in this historic home with a rare first floor laundry room!
Full Bathroom Before -- Dated, Cramped and No Shower!
Full Bathroom After -- Spacious, Functional and Trendy!
We spread out the full bathroom that was at one point cramped, by moving the toilet into a former linen closet, creating a spacious toilet closet. We finished all of the surfaces, re-glazed the cast iron tub and replaced all of the fixtures to provide a newly refurbished bathroom that still has the look and feel of the period!
Bedrooms Before -- Good Bones but Need a Makeover
These rooms already had a lot of the things that make a beautiful bedroom including lots of windows, nice size, pretty woodwork and hardware. They just needed to be refinished. We installed a special order trendy carpet with nice thick padding and restored the finishes and woodwork in these rooms!
The only thing left to do is to put a lucky homeowner into this special home. If you or someone you know is in the market, please refer them to this great home at:
