We have started a labor of love for new clients. We were given the privilege to renovate a nice spacious kitchen in a beautiful home in downtown Lansing! The kitchen was top of the line in its day, with metal cabinets, custom built-ins, built in fridge, etc. - not to mention loads of character - but like all trends, the glory days of this deluxe kitchen came and went! So, we are going to bring this kitchen up to date! Our plan is to maintain the context in this beautiful historic home, and bring is some fresh new finishes. We will leave no surface untouched. So, we will gut this kitchen down to the "four-walls" and start over with new custom framing and all new finishes!
The built-in shaker cabinet in the corner will stay. This is a great piece that we will incorporate into our design for the rest of the space. But everything else must go in this space, including the floor! I hope the tile comes up easily!?! We will also incorporate this gorgeous Tiffany pendant light into the main kitchen! Our plan is to convert this space from a breakfast nook, to an extension of the kitchen/butler's pantry with a bistro table and chairs!
At the time this home was built, doors were installed at the entryways and the homeowners want to keep and refinish them. This will aid in keeping with the original character of the home. We are also going to refinish the old trim to preserve some of the context of the room...but when we're done this trim will look better than new!
Right now, there is a built-in fridge space (that you can see), a laundry chute, and a built-in ironing board (can you imagine ironing in your kitchen while making dinner???) in this space. Our plan is to reconfigure this space into a fridge and pantry area! Same built-in custom look and feel, but now this space will function much better in a modern day kitchen!
